Experimental validation of a multiphase flow model of a lab-scale fluidized-bed gasification unit

This paper presents the results of a combined experimental and computational characterization biomass gasification process as carbon neutral technology for power generation and/or green hydrogen production. With aim to set validate fluid dynamic (CFD) multiphase flow simulation model based on MFiX suite – support design optimization advanced reactors energy purposes wide campaign has been carried out with cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) wood chips in lab-scale bubbling fluidized-bed unit different operation modes: pyrolysis, air-blown well steam char. In addition, pyrolysis kinetics have experimentally assessed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). study shows that is characterized syngas yield 0.65–0.66, whereas its allows production (1.73–1.77 Nm3 per kilogram fuel) lower heating value about 5 MJ/Nm3, concentration between 11.4 14.3% volume (depending equivalence ratio). used good predictive tool can successfully simulate predict composition accuracy, particular CO, H2 CH4.
